Am I a good candidate for LASIK?
The great majority of Americans who wear glasses or contact are potential candidates for LASIK. Typically, patients are at least 21 years of age and have nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism. However, only eye surgeons who are specially trained in LASIK can evaluate your suitability for the treatment.
How long does the LASIK procedure and recovery take?
The LASIK treatment itself takes about 15-40 seconds, based on the degree of correction necessary. Typically, you'll notice improvement in your sight in 3-5 days following LASIK, and you can usually go back to work the next day. Recovery varies based on each individual's own healing time. In most cases, both eyes will be corrected during the same visit to our facility.
Clinical trials of LASIK have been ongoing for many years. The Excimer Laser has been proven safe and effective for the treatment of the majority of nearsighted, farsighted, and astigmatism corrections. In the U.S. clinical trials' three-year follow-up, no sight-threatening complications have occurred. Over 2 million LASIK procedures have been performed in the U.S. since 1996. (2 Million LASIK procedures are expected to be completed each year)
What are the side effects of LASIK?
The most common side effects of LASIK are dry eyes, a "halo" effect and some glare at night around lights. However, these problems are no worse than what most contact lens and eyeglass wearers often experience and usually diminish or disappear within 6 months of after your LASIK procedure.
The LASIK procedure itself is painless. You may feel a pressure feeling during the IntraLase process. Typically, people experience mild discomfort and a "gritty" feeling during the first 2 to 4 hours after the LASIK treatment. Patients will be given medications they can use to control any discomfort.
Will my LASIK treatment be permanent?
Given the results of the U. S. clinical trials and the results reported internationally, the treatment appears to be permanent.
Eyeglasses usually have to be replaced once a year or so. And contact lenses - depending on the type you use - can be extremely costly, especially when you add in the cost of solutions. You'll find that LASIK can probably pay for itself in a few years time. We are currently offering Zero Percent LASIK Financing for up to 24 months to qualified candidates.
