Dr. Charles A Garcia
Dr. Charles A. Garcia is an internationally recognized researcher and clinician.
As a graduate of Tulane University he completed his residency and internship
at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston. His post residency fellowship
in Cornea and External Disease under Dr. Dan Brown at Baylor College of Medicine
in 1970. His clinical practice focuses on diagnosis of various vitreo retinal
diseases and he has worked throughout his career on finding a treatment for
Retinitis Pigmentosa and Retinal Diseases.
He has special interest in innovative therapies for macular degeneration and inherited retinal diseases. He also provides comprehensive general ophthalmology including cataract and glaucoma surgery.
Dr. Garcia is the Bernice Weingarten Distinguished Professor of Ophthalmology at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston. He has written extensively in peer reviewed journals and books about ophthalmology and retinal diseases in particular. He has published more than 175 articles and has written three books in English and Spanish.
In addition to numerous universities in the US, he has presented scientific papers in 16 other countries. He has been active in training both surgical and research fellows since 1974 and has trained more than 68 fellows from 21 different countries. As former President of the American Diabetes Association, Dr. Garcia has worked with local community organizations to educate the public about diseases of the eye and diabetes.
He continues to participate in clinical studies with the National Institutes
of Health and the National Eye Institute investigating progression of diabetic
retinopathy.
Dr. Scott E Segal
Dr. Segal has tremendous experience as an ophthalmic surgeon. He recieved
his Bachelors and medical degree at The University of Texas while his internship
was at Harbor UCLA Medical Center; Torrance, CA. Dr. Segal went on to graduate
from the residency program at The University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston
and is Board Certified in Ophthalmology
As a refractive surgeon, Dr. Segal has corrected the vision of numerous patients through the use of the LASIK procedure with fantastic results. Dr. Segal is available for medical consultation in all areas of comprehensive ophthalmology, including cataracts, refractive eye sugery, glaucoma and medical retina.
Dr. Segal is a member of several ophthalmic associations including the American
Medical Association, the Harris County Medical Society, and Refractive Surgeons.
Dr. Ricardo N Sepulveda
Dr. Ricardo Sepulveda received his medical degree from the University of Monterrey
Medical School and went on to complete
research fellowships at the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon, The University
of Texas Medical School at Houston Ophthalmology Department as well as The
University of Houston School of Optometry.
After completing his internship in General Surgery at The Cleveland Clinic
he was accepted into the Residency Program at St. Vincent’s
Catholic Medical Centers, New York Medical College, where he served as Chief
Resident. Dr. Sepulveda then went on to complete advance
fellowship training in External Diseases, Cornea, and Refractive Surgery at
The Cole Eye Institute at The Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.
Dr. Sepulveda has written peer reviewed journal publications on diseases
of the eye and liver as well as participated in numerous clinical trials.
He participated in research in Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy
and Virology. He has presented at the meetings of the American Academy of
Ophthalmology, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, American
Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery Conferences, European Society of
Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and Sociedad Mexicana de Oftalmologia.
